The Untold Story of Andy Irons | Behind his unfiltered life + death
The story of Andy Irons is a heavy one. After his death and struggles with drugs and bipolar disorders were partially covered up by the surf industry and his family and friends, those same people are telling the untold Andy Irons story. The real one, how Andy would have wanted it to be told. Leaving nothing back and letting it all out.
“This is the life story of three-time world champion surfer Andy Irons who died at age 32 from a heart attack with the secondary cause being an acute mixture of drugs. Andy and his brother, Bruce, came from humble beginnings on the small Hawaiian island of Kauai.
The film chronicles Andy’s struggles with dyslexia, bipolar disease, self-medication, addiction, fame, success, and failure. Andy was a blue collar people’s champ who dealt with the same issues millions of people around the world struggle with every day. He died on November 2, 2010. His wife was eight months pregnant with their son, Axel, at the time.”
It includes full length interviews with Bruce Irons, his wife Lyndie Irons, arch rival turned friend Kelly Slater, Joel Parkinson, Nathan Fletcher, and Sunny Garcia. Intimate testimonials and stories from this core group as well as other friends, family, and competitors will truly show the world both the light and dark side of Andy Iron’s life. Even the trailer is a tear jerker. Once the full doc is out there’s not going to be a dry eye in the house. That’s the kind of impact that Andy had.

“The time to tell Andy’s story is now, not because we want to glorify his life or accomplishments but because Andy wanted to share the truth of his struggles to educate future generations. This project is the hardest thing I have ever done. We wanted to shine an honest light on the truth—both the struggles and the triumphs—and tell an accurate story of who Andy truly was.”
