Oli Adams is a UK surfer who recovered from a debilitating illness, learning to walk again even, to create a film about him surfing a winter in UK and Ireland. Filming in those locations alone presents quite a struggle. In order to make it happen Oli had to invest in himself heavily. Buy a RED camera and rent it out to pay it off. Add to that learning how to stand-up on your surfboard again, hiring 6 different filmers, traveling over 5000 miles of road and ferry time, juggling a family, and more and you have Oli’s opus, ‘Trip The Light.

It’s now a Vimeo staff pic and opening more doors for Oli and his friends who also threw some fins for the short. Carve Mag talked to Oli about the intense work behind the scenes…

“I started production on Trip the Light less than a year after my surgery and I can see my surfing improving though the course of filming. It’s great to film often because you can really analyse what you are currently doing but you also have a great reference as to where you were at in that moment. I can really see this in each video I’ve released since I’ve been surfing again. I went to Canada three months post-op, Mentawais five months post-op and then now this one which started filming 11 months afterwards.”
