Spike Jonze’s Fav Cameras | From TWS covers on 35mm, to Kanye music videos on an iPhone, to winning Oscars in Hollywood

Did you watch Spike Jonze’s Epicly Later’d yet? It only costs like $2 on iTunes, so if you can’t find it anywhere else go get it there now and kick start your life into doing something creatively awesome and weird.

As someone (Atiba?) said in it, Spike Jonze – behind maybe only Tony Hawk – is the proudest export of skateboarding. From a dirtbag little creative comedian Spike took over the magazine world, co-founded Girl Skateboards, changed the skate world with ground breaking videos, then took over MTV with his music videos for the Beastie Boys, Bjork, and many many others, helped make many of his friends filthy rich with Jackass, directed some very very good Hollywood movies, and then finally won an Oscar. Incredibly there’s a million other noteworthy things missing there, just a couple of which that he was married to Sofia Coppola and dated Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Pretty cool. He also never forgot his skateboarding roots and added some friends or a hint of skate culture into everything he touched.

But anyway it was his love for cameras (and skateboarding) that really made this all happen so VICE got him to describe his favorite dozen and tell some stories about them.

Sample:

I always looked at cameras as a means to an end and not something to be precious about. I guess, looking back, it’s the same way you treat a skateboard: I would love getting a new board and putting it together, but I would never be careful with it. You use it for what it’s made for—same with a camera. I would bomb a hill with it, bolt it to the top of a car, and do whatever I needed to do with it to get a shot I was excited about.
