Scientists Are Using Eye Tracking To Analyze Surfers’ Gaze Patterns | Is Capturing Perceptual-Cognitive Skills The Future Of Surf Training?
Any time scientists get involved with surfing one has to wonder. But no doubt the future of surf training is gonna get technical, so keep your eyes open. Why some people are better surfers than others may soon be proven as scientists are putting weird futuristic glass on surfers and putting them under the microscope. The team of scientists is using eye tracking and motion analysis technology to record anticipation and decision making skills of elite surfers. So now for the first time it’s possible to capture perceptual-cognitive skills in professional surfing.
Looks like Bede Durbidge and Reubyn Ash are a couple of the guinea pigs for this research. Those glasses actually suit Bede’s “style” if you can call it that. This is what Reubyn had to say about it:
“A little while back now I was the guinea pig for the first time it was possible to capture perceptual-cognitive skills in professional surfing. some german friends of mine (a team of scientists) are using eye tracking and motion analysis technology to record anticipation and decision making skills of elite surfers, anyway heres the trailer for the documentary thats soon to be finished.”
