Nigerian’s First Skate Crew is Ready For Their Scene to Explode | “We don’t need your help but we do want your support.”
That little town of Lagos, Nigeria – population 22 million! – has it’s first skate crew and they are ready for the scene to explode, but they’re doing it their way. WAFFLESNCREAM is the name of their skateboard crew and now skateboard distribution shop, which is a first for Nigeria and will open the doors to many new skaters and like-minded people. Though they’ve been covered internationally since their beginnings in 2010, WAFFLESNCREAM don’t want foreign media pointing camera’s at them like they’re in a zoo as it was told to The Hundreds in a very fascinating look at what skateboard culture is like in Nigeria.

They are adamant about not wanting their community to be “saved.” On the contrary, they would rather be celebrated for their independence, and to share the freedom of expression and DIY that skate culture taught them.
“That’s why we wanted to make sure that people get the feel of our city the way we actually see it… When a foreign person holds the camera it’s just different sometimes.”
But in a place where it can still take 3-months to replace a broken board, they do want support in order for the skate culture to explode.
