Skateboarders are crafty people. It’s good to see the DIY movement alive and well in the skate scene and being supported by brands like Nike SB and TWSkate. Don’t think anyone saw this one coming though. A crew of skaters affiliated with 35th North in Seattle canoed out a crap load of concrete and supplies to an uninhabited island and built a sick little park. Great idea executed with a great amount of blood, sweat, and tears, and the final product was every skaters dream. A private diy skatepark on a tiny island. The only downfall was it’s on a wildlife habitat that no one is supposed to walk on. Now the cops are looking for answers and videos are being pulled off the Internet.

It was called the Nike SB Project 58 Do It Yourself project and challenged skate shops from all over the US to get creative on building or expanding a skatepark. Then upload the video to Transworld SKATEboarding for voting. The video in question was one of the winners of a $1000 prize. But owners of 35th North deny that they were involved.

Conspiracy? Now the cops are looking for answers and videos are being pulled off the Internet.

Cool story though…

Seattle Parks warns people to not even “set foot on” Green Lake’s Duck Island, considered by the city a wildlife habitat. But a crew of local boarding aficionados hauled concrete mix, tools, wood, rebar and other construction material by boat to the island and built a skatepark located in the middle of the bustling lake. Now, Seattle Parks and Recreation is considering getting the police involved. Here, skateboarders, in line at right, wade Wednesday across the channel between the shore of Green Lake to Duck Island to get to a small skatepark tucked in the trees.
