How Your Truck Choice Defines You as a Skateboarder | Deconstructing the marketing tactics that allow pieces of aluminum to be #branded
“Branding.” Buzz word of buzz words these days. Everything can be branded from hyped coffee beans to pieces of aluminum that allow you to enjoy the wood beneath your feet.
But how does your truck define you as a person?
“Like everyone else, I had become a slave to the IKEA nesting instinct. If I saw something clever like the coffee table in the shape of a yin and yang,I had to have it. I would flip through catalogs and wonder, “What kind of dining set defines me as a person?” I had it all. Even the glass dishes with tiny bubbles and imperfections, proof they were crafted by the honest, simple, hard-working indigenous peoples of wherever.” – Chuck Palahniuk

Few choices in life communicate as much about their owner as the skateboard truck. Board companies vary by woodshop, clothiers get bought out by global conglomerates, shoe brands come and go at the mercy of the vicissitudes of fashion, but the Big Three (plus one?) truck brands remain with consistent brand narratives that — for whatever reason — synergize with the most mindblowing slogans in the culture.
