Great Stories of Surf Rage + How to Avoid a Lawsuit
Trending over on Reddit right now is a story about a normally mild mannered surfer who unexpectedly lost his cool and beat the crap out of another surfer and his SUP because of a drop-in. Surf rage… it happens even to the best of us on occasion.
A couple tips for not having your surf fight lead to an arrest.
- Don’t write about it on-line, like this Reddit surfer.
- NEVER admit you did anything wrong to a cop. Then lawyer up.
Here is the offending surf fight story:
“So today was my day I guess. I am a peaceful guy and surfing should be fun for everyone. But this one Brazilian asshole long boarder today dropped in on me made eye contact then proceeded to run my board over as he attempted some sort of shitty cut back.
So at this point my new custom is now not so perfect and new but has a nice ding and crack across the rail as well as a 3″x3″ deamination around the impact area. (Not a huge deal it’s a part of surfing)
I wouldn’t have flipped my shit if he admitted it. But he said “fuck off I never dropped in or hit you man go away!”…..so I forced him to the beach and confronted him about surf etiquette. Then he pushed me so I beat the shit out of his epoxy board and him as he tried to run.
I mean, a hey I’m new or hey I’ll throw you some cash to fix it or buy a kit for you. Or fuck, I would just have taken a good authentic I’m sorry. But to say fuck you and lie. Damn.
Anyway never in a million years thought I’d lay hands on someone for their surfing stupidity.
