Eiki Helgason Launches ‘ISLAND BORN’: Zine, Doc, + Movie
One half of snowboardings wildest brother duo – Eiki Helgason – has been hard at work creating a full movie based in his homeland of Iceland, a zine (which is available now), and a documentary down with Stan Leveille previously of Hateline fame. Basically Eiki has become the snowboard version of Frank Ocean. (Who actually has ties to the skateboard industry). It’s great to see the ‘zine format come back and there’s even ‘real life’ hard copies available.
Eiki and his brother Halldor Helgason have really taken snowboarding into their own hands and not playing by the industries rules. Starting their own brands, moving to Monaco, partying like maniacs, and much more. Great to see them keeping snowboard legit and this is just another example.
Iceland is also making moves not just as a snowboard destination, but as a surf adventure as well. The wind of the North Atlantic makes it a battle, there are world class waves on offer though if you’re willing to put in the time and work.
“ísland born is the latest project from Icelandic snowboarder: Eiki Helgason
The project is split into three sections: Zine, Full part, and Documentary.
The Zine is a collection of stories compiled by different people through Eiki’s life and career. The Zine will be available as a limited edition print copy along the film’s European tour, which runs from 10/8 – 10/23
The Full Part, which will be released online on 12/5
In align with trying to keep each season different and fresh, Eiki decided to film his entire part in his home country of Iceland. Traveling throughout the country, finding spots that have never been ridden before.
The Documentary, which has snowboarding journalist and comedian, Stan Leveille traveling to Iceland to try and understand how a farm boy from Iceland became a world renowned snowboarder.
The Documentary will be released online 12/12.”
