Austyn Gillette Can’t Skate For Longer Than 2-days in a Row | Catch-up after 3 knee surgeries + 1.5 yrs of hell
Things are looking up for Austyn Gillette. After dealing with 1.5 years of hell going through three mcl knee surgeries and the death of his close friend and teammate Dylan Rieder, Austyn is rolling again and a part of Dane Reynolds new brand Former alongside fellow goofyfoot style icon Craig Anderson.
TWSkate caught up with Austyn who discussed the madness the mind goes through when going through multiple surgeries and over a year off the skate. Sponsors were dropping him, relationships were breaking down, he couldn’t even bend his legs for a month. Heavy.
“My main hobby was being good at exercising. Which is the fuckin’ lamest thing on the planet.”
He also changed his diet and spent thousands of dollars on vitamins.
“It was terribly depressing.”
Getting back to skating and hitting NYC for HUF got him back into the groove though. He had to strategically stagger his skate days in order for his knees to recover. It worked as he scored the cover of Transworld Skate.
