Lessons From a Skate-shop Mentor | Homage to the local shop employee who cared
As local skate-shops die off by the day, it’s nice to look back at at time when DVD’s existed, before the Internet always had the cheapest price and when life revolved around the local shop and the cool guys that worked there. These older dudes were your gateway to everything cool as a grom and helped out immensely. I know I had a quite a few in my day, (one of which – a local Ontario skate shop owner – has a daughter who is fighting a war on cancer as we speak that you can donate to if you so wish) and it helped out in many aspects of life not just getting sponsored and eventually spending my life working in the industry with all my friends.
Hopefully somehow this trend of knowledge can be passed down to the groms or today. One thing is for certain though, it can’t be done through Internet sales, so get out there and support your local skate shop while you still can!
