“Yeah. I went back and forth probably three times with him over to Kauai. It was coming around springtime and he had asked me what I was doing that summer and I said, “Going to Puerto Escondido probably.” And he goes, “Oh, you ever been to Jeffreys Bay?” And I went, “No.” “You ever wanna go?” And I said, “Totally, yeah, sure.” And he goes, “Okay.” And I didn’t hear from him for a couple months, and then all of the sudden I get a call from Honolulu, and he asked me if I had a passport, and I said, “Yeah,” and he said, “Bring your passport, meet me at the Pan-Am office.” So I met him and Ellie [Bunker’s girlfriend] at the Pan-Am office, and he bought three first-class tickets around the world. Saw him a few more times before we left and he made sure that I had proper attire to be in certain places that we would be at in Beverly Hills, and also in London. Then he gave me that book, The Player, and told me to check it out, and it was all highlighted and underlined. So I looked at that and then we took off to LA and picked up the equipment, then we took off to London. So, staying at the Beverly Hills Hotel the whole time, Playboy limousine service driving us around to go buy camera equipment… Before we left, though, I did have to meet with his lawyer—he called him the Checkered Demon—who was originally Clark Gable’s lawyer. He had me sign a document stating that I was not an employee and I was not being paid. And what I was being compensated with was the air ticket and food and lodging while I traveled with him, and that if we had any sort of disagreement and I was fired, I was to be returned back to where I was coming from in a first class manner, with all expenses taken care of. But if I quit, I was on my own ticket. I got to know Bunker better and better, and he was actually behaving the whole time, up until South Africa, where he started to lose it during his birthday party and all that.”
