5 Pros Talk About the Eternal Influence of the Z-Boys | Nuge: “Fuck the rules, skate + destroy.”
One of the great things about skateboarding is that its current state owes it all to the past. Skaters learn, build off of, and then push tricks and style to new levels. Not just talking about NDB’s, but much more. Dogtown and it’s Z-Boys were the driving force of modern skateboarding. The Hundreds checked in with five heavy weights of today – Lizzie Armanto, Don “Nuge” Nguyen,Chris Harris, Arto Saari, and Daewon Song – to see how much the og crew influenced them.
Here’s a sample of what Arto ‘the Great’ Saari had to say about the legend and influence of the Z-Boys on modern day pro skateboarding:
“The Z-Boys basically pioneered the world of being a professional skateboarder. There was no such thing as a pro skateboarder before they created the concept. That’s pretty huge. They invented the whole thing: the demos. The photos. They pioneered and molded what it is today. It all stems from them. That includes the tricks, too. Z-Boys created the foundation for everything that’s going on today.”
