The ‘Danny Way Killing a Gay Man’ Incident Set Straight | Josh Swindell talks after getting released from 19-years in jail
The whispers started amongst skateboardings inner circle back in the early ’90s. ‘A homosexual was killed and Danny Way did it. ‘Then it leaked to the more mainstream, but was never covered properly. The word was that due to his promising skate career one of the others took the hit and did the time. Then time went on and Danny did some incredible things and an inspiring documentary was put together about his life. Only nothing was mentioned about the dark early days.
Here is a brief quote from an article on the lack of openly gay pro skateboarders:
“It reminds me of an incident in 1993 in which pros Danny Way and Josh Swindell were involved in a fight outside a bar in Los Angeles with a man who was allegedly propositioning Swindell. The Los Angeles Times reported that the victim’s face was “beaten beyond recognition”. Way was never convicted of any offence in connection with the incident, but Swindell got fifteen years for second degree murder.”
But now it’s out. Josh Swindell – the skater in question – has spoken. What he has to say doesn’t make Danny look like a great guy…
