Jamal Smith may be the most famous skateboarder in the world right now. Actually it may still be Lil’ Wayne, depending on how you judge fame, but the homie Jamal is sitting on millions (of views) thanks to going viral as a meme. It all started with a friendly little skate beef between himself and Wade D before the Dime Glory Challenge World Championship Game of S.K.A.T.E. Then shit just hit the fan.

His skateboarding meme morphed into an Internet sensation pitting him as the ‘tight as fuck’ ex getting worked up over seeing his girl with a new WACK boyfriend. It’s all funny, but the original is definitely the one to watch.

Always keeping their fingers on skateboardings pulse, JENKEM called up Jamal and in a haze of smoke got the details on going viral multiple times, filming for the PALACE skateboards video, how his viral skating led to getting on Palace in the first place, and much more.

There’s definitely kids these days that try to make it via YouTube as a personality. What are your thoughts on people taking that approach to try and make it in skateboarding?
I mean, honestly… It can go both ways. It’s kind of corny and it’s kind of sick. It really just depends on the person and how they’re going about it.

I’ve seen some dudes on YouTube with podcasts that are sick where they just discuss skateboarding with their homies. I’m like word, that’s sick. Open conversations about skateboarding? That’s not something I had available when I was young. But then you see fools that are trying to turn themselves pro or get mad followers or subscribers so they can make some bread off of views and it’s like, “What the fuck are you doing? Nigga, just get a job…” [Laughs] I get it, but dawg, that’s not what skateboarding is for.
