Snowboard videos can get pretty boring. Same same always. Especially pipe edits. But Christian Haller has been quietly putting his own touch on the most creative turn and burn edits of the last 5 years. This year he released one of his best yet with SOFT.

Isn’t that how we’re supposed to “judge” riders? Not many people have a bag of tricks as big as Mr. Haller’s. I wanted to see them aired out in unique environments. But I’m sure that Hitsch didn’t know or particularly care what I wanted. I’m sure he had enough judging in his life, thanks to a heavy competition schedule filled with actual snowboard judges. His adventures in filming were clearly more about art and expression than tricks, as I was finally about to start to understand when his next project came to life.

SPUREN saw the entire Laax pipe painted blue so that Hitsch could shift the attention from the air to the transition. Less tricks, more turns, showing the art in the ordinary. This project was on a different level for me. More conceptual, less conventional… and therefore more risky. Not everyone “got it” but that’s ok. I liked that the crew was taking risks and I started to forget about my own preconceptions of what Christian’s snowboarding videos needed to be.
