neckface-wacko-maria-interview-skateboard-art-baker

Neckface is one of the most legit ‘skateboard’ artists out there because he actually skates. None of this scene riding, “I used to skate,” bullshit. Neck rides heavy with the Boss and his Baker crew, does up merch for Thrasher, and much more.

Lately the hot topic has been the fashion industry holding onto skateboarding for dear life. All sorts of people that didn’t know a skateboard from a longboard a year ago are wearing Palace, Thrasher, and clicking on VOGUE’s skate week articles. In this interview with Hypebeast (because he collab’d with Wacko Maria on a new line) they asked him if he cared:

The intertwining of skateboarding culture and fashion has become increasingly noticeable in recent times. Do you feel that this is the right step for the sport or something that goes against the foundations of skateboarding being somewhat independent?

I mean skateboarders are going to be their own people no matter what. There’s always going to be someone trying to leach off of you. It doesn’t matter who you are, whether you’re a skateboarder, artist, or a basketball player. If skateboarding is in the high fashion sh*t right now then whatever, f*ck it; f*ck all the bitches you can, straight up. If you got model girls chasing you cause you’re a skateboarder ride it out.

Keeping in mind that Neck is as legit as they come, this is a pretty sick answer. Fashion is going to turn their back on us shortly, so might as well use it to our advantage.
