Surfing in war zones. It sounds so exotic, yet many of us have done it just a few years after the turmoil cleaned up. El Salvador, Columbia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, are just a few of the locations that hold both amazing waves as well as served as battlegrounds.

“As a surfer, it’s hard sometimes to not feel a little bit like a war profiteer. Many of the places we frequent are dirt-cheap and the dollar goes a long way because, well … many of those places are unstable.”

 

It’s true. Surfers love good waves and cheap trips. But now after decades many of these places are opening back up and are as safe as anywhere. Go get on a plane.
